This converter carries over the words, page by page. It does not carry over fonts, colors, images, tables or the exact page layout - you get clean, editable text in a .docx file. Scanned PDFs (photos of pages) have no text to read and are not supported. On pages with two or more columns, words from different columns can end up sharing a line.

What carries over into the Word file?
The text of your PDF, page by page, as editable paragraphs. Fonts, colors, images, tables and the exact layout do not carry over - the .docx holds clean text you can restyle yourself. Simple, single-column, text-heavy PDFs like letters and reports convert best; on multi-column pages words from different columns can interleave on the same line.
Do scanned PDFs work?
No. A scan is a photo of a page with no real text inside, so there is nothing to read - this tool does not do OCR (image text recognition), and it will tell you when a PDF has no readable text.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your PDF is read and converted entirely on your device with Mozilla's open-source pdf.js engine. Nothing leaves your browser.
Will password-protected PDFs work?
PDFs that require a password to open cannot be read. Remove the password first with our Unlock PDF tool, then convert.
What opens the .docx file?
Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and most document editors open .docx files.
