Frequently asked questions

How is EMI calculated?
EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12), and n is the number of months. This is the standard reducing-balance method with monthly rests, used by Indian banks for home, car and personal loans; a 0% rate simply divides the principal across the months. Actual loan schedules can differ because of processing fees, prepayments, part-payments or floating-rate resets.
Why does early interest outweigh principal?
Interest is charged on the outstanding balance. Early in the tenure the balance is highest, so most of each EMI goes to interest; the share flips over time.
Does a longer tenure reduce cost?
It reduces the monthly EMI but increases total interest paid. Compare tenures with the schedule below to see the trade-off.
Is my loan data stored?
